Geborn in Israel. Aufgewachsen in Rishon Le Zion, Haifa und in Oklahoma. Er leistete seinem Israelischen Militärdienst als Sanitäter, und wohnte danach viele Jahre in Kibbutz Kfar Giladi an der libanesischen Grenze. Dort studierte er Informatik und arbeitete anschließend in diesem Bereich als Entwicklungsingenieur und Projektleiter. Außerdem schloss er an der Hebrew University of Jerusalem und an der Universität Wien einen MA in Vergleichenden Religionswissenschaften ab. Seit 2008 wohnt er in Wien, wo er Or Chadasch als seine jüdische Gemeinde gefunden hat.
Born and raised near Chicago, U.S.A. He studied at Hebrew Union College and the University of Southern California (Los Angeles) where he graduated with a degree in German Literature in 1975. In the same year he immigrated to Austria. He first worked as a teacher of English as a second language while at the same time doing graduate work at the University of Vienna. He began working with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis located near Vienna in 1980. He is currently Deputy Head of Human Resources. John had contact with Or Chadasch – Jewish Liberal Community of Vienna from its beginnings in 1991. He joined its Board in 2006 where he holds the position of treasurer. He has represented the community several times at EUPJ and WUPJ conferences. He has been affiliated with the International Lesbian and Gay Association for many years, being elected Secretary General from 1991 to 1994 and leading ILGA’s successful campaign for recognition as an NGO with the United Nations (ECOSOC) in New York. He is an Austrian citizen and lives in Vienna. He has lived with his partner, Andrzej Selerowicz since 1979; they entered a civil marriage in 2010.
